The membership continued three subcommittees -- Events, Home Page and Awareness/Staff Development. The Spring 1998 Diversity Conference subcommittee was added and the Curriculum Proposals subcommittee was phased out. The subcommittees are outlined below:

  • Diversity Conference: A request for volunteers from the university community was issued by the UDC Co-Chairs, and a number of faculty and staff responded. This subcommittee, chaired by Sue Brotherton, was responsible for creating and implementing a diversity conference during the Spring of 1998. The conference was co-sponsored by CSUSB and the San Bernardino County Schools.
  • Events Subcommittee: This subcommittee continued to issue a call for funding requests to the university community for co-sponsorship of events and programs that address diversity on campus. The proposal form for this year?s funding requests was revised and the UDC decided to continue funding a maximum of $500.00 for co-sponsored events. Members of the subcommittee included Norma Romero, Mary Moya, and John Futch.
  • Home Page Subcommittee: This subcommittee completed and continues to update the Diversity Home Page for this campus with funding from the UDC. Student assistants were hired to assist and the enhancements were commended by the UDC. Calendar software, the Events Committee request form for funding, and the nomination form for the Diversity Awards were added. The Diversity Home Page was linked to the campus Home Page and to the National Diversity Works network which includes approximately 300 other colleges and universities. This network is sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities and includes faculty and staff from the Lily Endowment diversity project, and institutions belonging to the following consortia: WICHE (Western Interstate Commission of Higher Education), Washington Center for Improving the Quality of Undergraduate Education at Evergreen State College, ACM (Associated Colleges of the Midwest) and GLCA (Great Lakes Colleges Association). The subcommittee consisted of Xiwen Zhang, Sam Romero, Andrew Simolke and Donovan Rinker.
